Stepping Forward!

Our Story

The Centre Wellington Black Committee (CWBC) is a non-profit community organization based in Fergus, Ontario, Canada.

Founded in 2021 by Millicent Gordon, CWBC began as a small group of passionate individuals united by a shared vision: to celebrate the rich tapestry of our communities and to foster an environment where every voice is heard and valued. Our journey is rooted in the recognition of the contributions and legacies of those who came before us, and it is propelled forward by our commitment to inclusivity and diversity.

Our organization was initially started to honor the legacy of Richard Pierpoint, a national historic person and British soldier of Senegalese descent, who was brought to America as an enslaved person, granted freedom to fight on the side of the British in  the American Revolution and the War of 1812 and given lands in present day St. Catharines, Ontario and Fergus, Ontario for his military service.

Our Mission

Our mission is to illuminate the past, enrich the present, and inspire a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We are dedicated to:

• Supporting the growth and development of our community through various initiatives and programs.
